About the Artist

Welcome to Zazzy Peacock Studios!  I'm Jill Newman, and I create one-of-a-kind hand-felted jewelry and accessories.  Once upon a time, I was a lawyer, but I have always pursued artistic endeavors as well.  I officially quit my job to become an artist over 15 years ago.  In 2011, when I discovered needle-felting, it was love at first poke.  After experimenting with the usual felted flowers and such, I decided to make things that I would actually wear -- modern, funky, colorful jewelry.  Many of my first designs were inspired by peacock feathers, animal prints, and other beautiful patterns and forms in nature.  And so, Zazzy Peacock Studios was born!

Over time, I have developed what I believe is a very distinctive style. My designs are still influenced by nature, as well as geometric forms and Art Deco motifs.  I incorporate Swarovski crystals and irridescent Czech glass beads because I love how the sparkle of the beads complements the earthiness of the felt.  I use antiqued high-quality silver-plated jewelry findings, some of which I oxidize myself, because I feel the subtly vintage look gives my modern designs a timeless appeal.  The texture of the felt itself is wonderful.  Using 100% sheep wool in a huge array of colors, I have developed a combination of needle-felting (dry felting) and wet felting techniques that results in an intricately detailed and strong, tight felt that cannot be achieved by using either technique alone.  I do all the felting, all the hand-wiring and beading, and every other step in the process myself.  I ensure that each piece is truly one-of-a-kind (constantly varying colors and compositions) and up to my high standards of craftsmanship.

I hope you will enjoy exploring my website.  If you can, come visit me in person at a show or take one of my workshops.

If you are looking for specific colors, I am happy to work with you to create custom jewelry just for you.  If you are interested in any of the pieces featured in the Gallery or have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Best wishes,

Jill
